BILLIOUS POND UPDATE
A very quiet summer for Billious Pond. Other than helping to prepare for and playing at “Benefit for Thera Concert” and being asked to sing at a funeral we have not done much of late. Health concerns and then other family commitments curtailed our plans. On September 9th ½ of Billious Pond (Bill & Don) will be performing at Sam’s Place located at 159 Henderson (just south of Hespeler, east side of Henderson) from 7-9:30 p.m. Sam’s Place is a coffee house/used book store run by volunteers. Food and drinks are sold and served there with 100% of the sales going to charity.
Hope you can drop by and get a little taste of what we do at the Seniors Homes and other venues.
Thanks to our friends in Midale, SK both of our CD’s did receive air play on Sunday mornings on CJVR-FM, Melfort SK.
On behalf of Billious Pond
Blessings,
Bill
WE HAVE DECISIONS TO MAKE.
YOU HAVE A SAY!
On Sunday, September 20th, we will have a workshop following the service led by Rhonda Lorch. Please join us as we explore how to better support our congregational mission through appropriate allocation of bequests. Those who are unable to attend or who think better on paper are invited to submit their ideas in writing. We are thinking not just about the current bequest that has been received, but about all future bequests. Let’s continue to pray and to talk together!
BIBLE STUDY BASED ON
“THE SHACK”
The Shack, written by William Paul Young, is both a best-selling book and a great basis for theological discussions (in other words – discussions about God!). Some of the topics addressed in the book include the Trinity, human suffering, and the meaning of the cross. However, lest you be scared off, the book reads like a novel.
A Bible study based on The Shack will begin in October, on Thursdays from 7:30 to 9:00 pm. Participation will require reading the book first. As Pastor Lynne has not yet developed the study, the number of weeks is unknown at this point. If you are interested in participating, please let Pastor Lynne know. The book can be obtained at most bookstores.
CHOIR PRACTICE
Choir practice begins on Wednesday, September 9th at 7:30 p.m. If you enjoy singing, come out and join us!
BEQUEST BRAINSTORMING
Rhonda Lorch will be with us Sunday, October 4th. Join us after service as we explore how to better support our congregational mission through appropriate allocation of bequests.
METRO CONFERENCE CONVENTION
We gather as a conference on Saturday, October 17th at Messiah Lutheran Church (Rouge Rd.) from approximately 9 am to 3 pm. Details of the agenda are posted on the bulletin board. If you are interested in attending as a voting delegate for St. Luke’s Zion, please let Pastor Lynne or Randy Iwanicki know. You are also welcome to attend as a visitor.
PEEKING UNDER DUSTY SANDALS TO MEET THE LIVING GODis a Celebration of Faith Event for the whole family, synod, and community.
The event is modeled on our national youth gathering – with music, drama, scripture study and key note speaker.
In this time of uncertainty and economic unrest, it is good to gather as a faith community, both lay and rostered, to support and strengthen one another and build up the faith. Come as a whole faith community. Begin encouraging friends, family, congregational members and others to gather with us as a community of Christians.
***Cost is only your bag lunch on Saturday. Soup and beverages will be provided.
Date: Friday, October 23 and Saturday, October 24th.

THE BIBLE AND THE CELL PHONE
(taken from CrossWord, MNO Synodical Periodical, Sept. 16/09)
I wonder what would happen if we treated our Bible like we treated our cell phones.
What if we turned back to go get it if we forgot it?
What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets?
What if we flipped through it several times a day?
What if we used it to receive messages from the text?
What if we treated it as if we couldn't live without it?
What if we gave it to kids as gifts?
What if we used it as we traveled?
What if we used it in case of emergency?
What if we upgraded it to the latest version?
This is something to make you go... hmmm... where is my Bible?
Oh, and one more thing. Unlike our cell phone, we don't ever have to worry about our Bible being disconnected because Jesus already paid the bill!
