BILLIOUS POND UPDATE! It’s been a good spring and summer for us starting with the service on April 27th at St. Luke’s Zion following up the next week (May 4 & 5th) with a Saturday night concert and Sunday morning service in Midale, Saskatchewan, the Manitoba Gospel Festival in Beausejour on July 19th, the service at Church of the Good Shepherd, Selkirk on July 27th (a direct result of one of their members attending our service on April 27th) and then the St. Laurent Gospel Festival on August 23rd. Things went well at all venues and C.D. sales have continued to be good. At the St. Laurent Gospel Festival we played 2 half hour sets and we had our biggest single day of C.D. sales (22). We also had a recent request for 5 more C.D.S to be sent to Midale. In the past eighteen months we have raised well over $4,000.00 for New Life Ministries in memory of Pastor Harry Lehotsky. God has surely blessed our effort. It is definitely time to consider going back into the studio and making a new C.D. as we’ve had numerous requests for such. We were also blessed at both festivals (Beausejour & St. Laurent) with Don Plett who played bass guitar for us both times. At the St. Laurent festival he also ended up playing bass for seven other groups. At one of the Seniors homes a staff member mentioned that they were so glad that we come there as we are one of the few programs that run through the summer months (It’s not as if the residents are gone to their cottages for the summer.) We will be playing in Beausejour, on Sunday evening October 26th. We will have more information in the October newsletter. On behalf of the group we thank the many of you who have lifted us up in prayer.
In Christ’s love,
Bill
ALPHA ALUMNI! All former Alpha attendees please mark your calendar for Saturday October 25th as we are planning to have a reunion for all who have attended the Alpha program in the past whether that was at the Haabs or at our places (Gunns/Rumleys). The event will happen at St. Luke’s Zion (to be confirmed). For now, we are planning a Saturday morning brunch (10:30) with fellowship and discussion to take place during and after (probably until 1:30 or 2:00 p.m.) One does not have to bring anything just let us know you’ll be coming. If you’d like to help in the preparations, etc., please talk to Bill/Teresa (334-2260) or Betty/Bob (334 6121). For those who brought friends from outside of the congregation to the Alpha sessions please let them know that they are welcomed to be part of this and assure them that this is not a membership drive. There will be open discussion and fellowship. Please note: All are welcomed to attend. If you have never attended an Alpha function before but would like to, you will be welcomed as our guests. You don’t need to bring anything just let us know your coming. More details to follow.

THE URBAN What can we do to help? We are desperately in need of replenishment of our stock of non-perishable foods. We not only provide meals three times per week, we also assist with small amounts of emergency food to those who are struggling. We could certainly use more Kraft dinner, cans of soup, stew, or meat. With school starting we could also use boxes of cereal to give to families in need. We no longer have a thrift store, but, we still will on occasion receive clothing items. The things that are in high demand are things such as underwear, long johns in the winter, boots, winter coats and jackets. Although it seemed that we had an endless number of socks, we will likely need these before too long. We can certainly use donations of shampoo, razors, combs, and female hygiene products as well as deodorant for men. The Urban is a warm and friendly place where the community comes together to meet in the evening. We invite people to come down and meet with our community and possibly choose to volunteer. We need volunteers for the serving of meals, meal preparation, children’s program and the children’s camera club that will be starting in September. This is from the hours of 4 to 6 p.m. Children will be provided with a digital camera and be given assignments of what to take pictures of each week. They will require an adult to accompany them to ensure their safety. Pictures will be selected for photo montages and hopefully, some may be sold at the fall Tea, November 8/08. We are accepting donations of baked goods for both sale or for being served at the Tea. Please mark this on your calendar. We will open the door at 1:00 pm until 3:00 p.m. We are going to have many items crafted by people at the Urban available as unique gifts. Some are designs from the far north and are very detailed in the crafting.
