LUTHERAN URBAN MINISTRY:

October 2024 News from your Ministry Manager

We always have children busily colouring at our small tables during our Urban worship services on Sunday afternoons. Last week, two young brothers, with great concentration, put together a jigsaw puzzle on the floor with cookies and juice beside them.

I fervently wish that every MNO pastor in Winnipeg, or within driving distance, would experience leading our wonderful Urban worship services, even once a year – or dropping in to worship with us.

During the prayers of the church, the prayers from our prayer bucket are read. They’re written during coffee/tea time before the service. These written prayers are so powerful and they’re from the hearts of our Urban community. Sometimes there is a prayer written by one of the children/youth. Prayers for family, friends, the city, and the world. It’s always wonderful when a pastor or MNO congregation member drops in to our worship services and/or our sharing circles.

We invite you to drop in and join us!

We continue to have such interesting conversations in our sharing circles! Recently in our men’s, women’s and co-ed circles:

• We discussed our thoughts about a passage from The Little Prince that began with “And what, exactly, is that metaphorical thorn for you?”

• We looked at a chart of The Golden Rule and the similar wording in all of the world faiths. We talked about we are all so much more alike than different.

• We discussed the Seven Types of Rest - physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, social, sensory, and creative rest – what we personally need more of, and what we need to do for ourselves.

• Norman Fullerton, retired teacher and author, led a discussion during our men’s lunch/sharing circle. He told us two stories and asked each person, “who had a memorable impact on your life”?

• Rev. Ken Kuhn led a discussion during a men’s lunch/sharing circle on the topic of restorative justice.

To our MNO Congregation Members and Clergy: A wonderful opportunity to have fellowship with our Urban Community - please drop by anytime to our: Sunday Worship Service: door opens at 1:00 p.m. with coffee/tea. Worship service 1:30 – 2:15 p.m.

Men’s Lunch/Sharing Circle every Wednesday - Downstairs at Noon Please stop by at 12:00 p.m. Noon (ring the doorbell) for lunch and great fellowship and conversation!

Women’s Sharing Circle every Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. (until 3:30 p.m.) Please arrive at 2:00 p.m. (ring the doorbell) for coffee/tea/dessert and great fellowship and conversation!

Women’s Drop-in every Wednesday from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. Please drop in (ring the doorbell) for coffee/tea/cookies and visiting together! Kids & grandkids welcome to come with you and we have colouring and arts and crafts to keep them busy.

Co-ed Sharing Circle every Thursday at 4:30 p.m. (please arrive at 4:30 p.m.) (ring the doorbell) Join us for great fellowship and conversation! And coffee/tea/dessert. –
