LADIES GROUP
The ladies meeting for June will be the luncheon at Partner’s Deli on June 14th. Quite a few ladies have put their names down already. There is still time to see Laurel. She is taking names until June 8. We hope to see you attend.

Please keep any items that you have for the sale or the silent auction until the week of June 15th. Items can be dropped off at the church from June 15th-20th between 6:30 and 8:30 pm each evening. If you are able to help in any way, please sign up on the bulletin board in the narthex or speak to Rolf Salfert (633-4215).

UPDATE
At this year’s annual meeting, I indicated that I would know more about immigration by June. I can tell you now that I will be remaining here for the foreseeable future. Previous plans did not work out.

BILLIOUS POND UPDATE!
We had a very enjoyable stay at Midale with Pastor Donna Smalley and her congregation (Bethlehem Lutheran Church). The people we were billeted with were very warm and friendly and, in spite of being in the centre of Saskatchewan's oil boom, very down to earth. Our concert and service were both well received. A special thank you to Jamie for joining us and providing some much needed awesome bass. With the free will offering and the sale of C.D.s we were able to send another donation to New Life Ministries in memory of Pastor Harry Lehotsky bringing our total donations to just over $3500.00. God has continued to bless our C.D. in a way we would never have thought possible and we give Him all the glory.

Upcoming dates:
 Manitoba Gospel Festival @ Beausejour - Sat. July 19th @ 4 p.m.
 St. Laurent Gospel Festival, St. Laurent – Sat. Aug. 23rd @ 1:30 & 7:00 p.m.

Blessings,

Billious Pond

NEWSLETTER ITEMS
Items for the July newsletter can be given to Teresa Rumley or emailed to treerumley@shaw.ca by Sunday, June 22nd.

     Thank you!

THE LUTHERAN URBAN MINISTRY
Hours of operation effective May 20th, 2008.

     Mon. – Thurs. – 12:30 – 9:00
     Sunday – 1:00 – 4:00
     Phone #: 774-3413

Come down and visit our new space at 743 Ellice Ave. We’ve finished unpacking and things look very welcoming. The kitchen has been a real blessing for preparation of Sunday afternoon meals, the windows for their connection to the outdoors.
There are a few emergency food supply items that we seem to run out of regularly. Next time you’re out grocery shopping pick an item for the Urban: tea, peanut butter, healthy breakfast cereal, canned meat or tuna (no salmon please), margarine. We can also use some cookies or granola bars for the Thursday evening adult drop in program.

But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
I will sing to the Lord, for he has been good to me.
~Psalm 13:5-6~

Poet’s Corner

My Mock Orange Blossom Tree

In June
My mock orange tree
Bursts forth in bloom with
White petals so delicately formed
The air is filled with heavy perfume,
More than a soul can bear.

At dusk,
There under the tree
stands my neighbour, Joe.

Crippled, arthritic and fragile
Joe
hobbles to the tree,
stretches out his arm,
shakes my orange blossom tree.

Like snowflakes, the petals slowly descend
A mantle for Joe’s form is created.
Like the burning of incense at evening prayer
A heavenly aroma fills the air.

Joe stands in silent reverie
Breathes in the scented perfume.
Then, slowly, oh so slowly
He turns and leaves.

Still crippled, arthritic and fragile
A transformation within has taken place.
Refreshed, renewed and uplifted
He shuffles home, murmuring:
“So good. So good.”
