SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES:
We’ve had an environmental assessment of the St Luke’s Zion Church building done as a university project. The resulting report gives some suggestions for us to reduce our carbon footprint. If you have an interest in being on a committee that will meet to discuss possibilities, please let me know.

LUTHER VILLAGE CAMP:
It's a great day to come to Luther Village
Family Camp, Kids Camp, cabin rentals or more!
I cannot think of a better time to contact camp and make that visit to Luther Village a reality!
I have been asked these questions many times...
Do I need to be Lutheran? Do I need to belong to a church? Do I need to have a strong understanding of my own Faith or maybe I don't even know anything about any of it- at all.
The simple answer is no...
What we do hope you to bring with you to Luther Village... is a desire to be apart of community, who are open and welcoming to everyone. That you feel included and make others around you feel the same. We also hope you find what you NEED, whether it is renewal of body, mind, and spirit, a chance to enjoy the outdoors or just a relaxing day on the beach.

LUTHERAN URBAN MINISTRY:
June 2024 News from your Ministry Manager
Reminder that the Urban is closed for holidays for the month of July
As our month of July holiday begins in a few weeks, I’ve been reflecting on the evolution of the Urban. Beginning in the lower level of First English Lutheran on Maryland Street many years ago and called the Lutheran Urban Mission, the church was sold about 19 years ago, and the Urban has evolved over the years. Rev. David Lowe was the first ministry manager.
I began volunteering during the time that the Urban was renting on Sherbrook. The Urban had formed a vision committee, and a board of directors was formed under the direction of the first chair of the board, Judy Dikkema. A new name was chosen - the Lutheran Urban Ministry, and incorporated as a non-profit corporation in 2007.
Denise Warren was the next ministry manager and during that time the Urban moved to Ellice Ave.
Sandy Belisle followed Denise as the ministry manager in 2008 and during that time I joined the board of directors. A move to the lower level of St. Matthews Anglican Church followed the rental on Ellice Ave. Renovations began there shortly afterward (now called St. Matthews Commons). Sandy had developed an illness and really suffered with the dust - and Lutheran Church of the Cross offered rental in their lower level about 11 years ago. Unfortunately, Sandy’s health continued to decline and she went on disability (sadly, Sandy passed away in 2021).
Rev. Deb Kerr replaced Sandy as ministry manager in 2013. When Deb relocated to Calgary, I was hired to replace her. For the two years prior to this, I had been studying Chaplaincy and Spiritual care at Booth University College and I completed the first unit of Clinical Pastoral Education at the Victoria General Hospital as well. I’ve been the ministry manager since 2016.
The Urban is truly a unique and special place. It’s a safe gathering place for spiritual care, emotional support, and food for the body and spirit. The many facilitators who have led sharing circles for specific programs have told me that there is a spirit of fellowship, respect, inclusion. and friendship that is inspirational and memorable for their own work. My heart is warmed there and it is a huge privilege to know our Urban community. At the Urban we are all mutually fed in fellowship together.

2024 Going the Distance for the Urban
Sept. 14th - CanadaHelps website is live!!
?Hi Winnipeg & nearby MNO congregations,
A year goes so quickly and we're once again planning our Going the Distance for the Urban fundraiser on Saturday, September 14th
It would be wonderful to have many city congregation teams. If you like to ride: bring your bike! If you like to walk (the equivalent to a block or two, or up to 6 kilometers: wear your comfy shoes! Great congregational fellowship at our Urban hotdog bbq afterwards at Abundant Life!
It's easy to sign up a congregational team, or to sign up as a walker or rider on a team. Please email me if you have any questions on how to do it.
Here's the link:
https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/lutheran-urban-ministry-corporation/p2p/2024Going-the-Distance/
and click on Join a team (and pick which one you want to join) or Create a Team (and sign up with your own name first as team captain - and create a CanadaHelps account and a password, or sign-in if you already have one - and then continue with the prompts to create your team name: example First Lutheran Team).
I've created the Urban team (I'm team captain) to start it off and to use as an example of how it shows up on the site.
I'll send the team captains additional info materials. I'm looking forward to a really fun day!
If it's possible, please create your team as soon as possible so it's ready for people to sign up as walkers/riders and for people to donate to those participants. Thanks so much!
Kind regards,
Rhonda
