LUTHERAN URBAN MINISTRY:
April 2024 News from your Ministry Manager Happy Easter!
The Prayer Bucket at the Urban is placed out during coffee time every Sunday before our worship service. Prayers are written, folded, and put into the bucket and then brought to the pulpit at the beginning of the service, and they’re read aloud in the service during the prayers of the church. All year they’re saved in a box in my office. Every year at the First Lutheran Church Easter Vigil, the prayers are placed in the sacred fire in the church courtyard.
I always reassure our Urban community that their prayers each week are not thrown away. The smoke from the prayers at the Easter Vigil goes up to our Creator who knows all the prayers and their authors. The power of these spoken prayers in our worship service is indescribable. The writers speak from their hearts in their prayers for others, for themselves, for the community, and the world. The prayers of children are often in the prayer bucket too.
Please keep our Urban community in your prayers too, and we invite you to join us anytime at Sunday worship.
To our MNO Congregation Members and Clergy: A wonderful opportunity to have fellowship with our Urban Community - please drop by anytime to our:

TRINITY FOOD PANTRY:
The board of the Trinity Food Pantry thanks all the generous supporters who again sent donations during the Christmas Season. The proceeds enabled the purchase of Christmas gifts for all children under thirteen as well the monthly enhancement of the food hampers. Fresh produce, milk and high protein foods are purchased to add to the supplies that Harvest provides. When possible feminine hygiene products are added.
Hamper distribution days are every four weeks. That is down from every two weeks before COVID. And the hampers are not much larger to compensate for the change. TFP distributes about twenty hampers to about eighty persons including thirty-five children. Your continued support is greatly appreciated by the recipients and the volunteers.
TFP volunteers gather on a Monday morning to receive the shipment from Harvest. The shipment is unpacked and prepared from distribution. Needed items are added from storage or purchased. On Tuesday morning the hampers are distributed to the clients as they arrive. Younger volunteers are often needed.
Coffee and treats are served which gives the recipients of the hampers and the volunteers time to spend together and get to know one another. Some stories bring tears to one’s eyes.
Last Sunday, the Sunday after Easter, is often called Low Sunday. This writer likes to call it Where Was Thomas Sunday. Sitting and listening to the stories of food pantry clients gives insight into why some do not show up. Physical and mental illness, addictions, abandonment, illegal evictions, lack of transportation and lost opportunities.
Feel free to send this post to family and friends.
Make checks payable to Grace Lutheran Church, 211 Kimberly Ave, Winnipeg, MB R2K 0X3.
Write a memo on the check: Trinity Food Pantry.
