LADIES GROUP
Ladies of St. Luke's Zion will meet on Saturday morning, May 10th at 10:30. We will be putting the Pentecost banner in place. Also we plan to make arrangements for the ladies spring luncheon. We will review the results of the Soup 'n' Bun Luncheon. It was very successful from reports so far. All the different people in our congregation come together. We create a network of support for each other and many community and worldwide missions. Similarly we brought our own style of soup, put them all together. A wonderful meal we shared. After being spiritually fed by worship and physically fed by our community soup, we were ready to take on a week doing all we can in our neighbourhood and in our world. Thank you to everyone who participated.

ANNUAL PICNIC
It is time again for our annual picnic which will be held on June 1st immediately following the service. Please watch the church bulletin for further information.

ST. LUKE’S ZION YARD SALE
The tentative date for this year’s sale is Saturday, June 21st. There is a sign-up sheet at the back of the church, requesting helpers for that day and another one for baking.
This year’s sale has the potential to be a great fundraising event, but like everything else “people power” is definitely needed. If you can spare us even 1 or 2 hours, that would be great. Needed are people for morning set up (7 - 9 a.m.); selling, raffle table, hot dog, coffee/baking (9 a.m. 12:00 p.m.) or (12:00 – 3:00 p.m.); and cleanup (3 4 p.m.).
At our yard sale people are always looking for eats. We would like to offer for sale muffins, cookies, brownies and rice krispie squares along with coffee, drinks and hot dogs. So if you like to bake, please consider donating one or two dozen items.
We are also planning to hold a raffle. We are looking for new items to be donated towards this very popular event. Some examples of items that could be donated are: candles, stationary, books, puzzles, games, linens, kitchen items, Christmas/summer items, jewellery, beauty products, tools, car accessories, children’s items, new clothing, dry specialty foods. When these items are placed together, they make great prize packages. Please make sure these raffle items are kept separate from the general yard sale donations.
Proceeds from this year’s sale will be equally distributed to the Lutheran Urban Mission Project and for payment of the fabulous new fridge in our church basement.

PRAYER REQUEST
Please keep Pastor Art Leichnitz in your prayers. He is recovering in Geneva University Hospital from two surgeries as a result of an amoeba in his system. Art is limited in receiving phone calls but cards and letters are appreciated and may be sent to Dirk Michael Grotzsch c/o LWF in Geneva.

 Poet’s Corner

          His Baba’s Babushka

This babushka, reflects his Baba:
like her hair – grey
like her heart – warm
like her patience – long.

A band of orange, for a day full of energy.
A band of navy blue, for night’s restful sleep.

Only a babushka, but so like his Baba:
dull grey in appearance
but boundless in usefulness.

A plain grey scarf – a babushka hand-knitted
A treasure that holds in itself
Memories of Baba, his priceless Baba.

          I Stay Away…
1. I stay away from church because it rains.
You go to work in the rain.

2. I stay away from church because it is hot.
So is the golf course.

3. I stay away from church because it is cold.
It’s warm and friendly inside.

4. I say away from church because I am poor.
There is no admission charge.

5. I say away from church because I am rich.
We’ll take care of that.

6. I stay away from church because no one invited
me.
People go to the movies without being asked.

7. I stay away from church because I have children.
God loves them.

8. I stay away from church because there are
hypocrites.
You associate with them daily.

9. I stay away from church because my clothes are
not expensive.
It’s not a fashion show.

10. I stay away from church because the church always
wants money.
So does your grocer.

11. I stay away from church because I have company.
They will admire your loyalty,
whether you bring them along
or ask them to wait until you get back.

12. I stay away from church because I have plenty of
time to go later.
Are you sure?

Thank you to Trudy Smith for sharing this with us.
