SLZ WORSHIP SERVICE DURING CoVid19:
Since March 22nd our worship services have been live streamed online on the St. Luke’s Zion Facebook page. If you missed them, you are still able to view the videos if you have a Facebook account.
The worship services have been appreciated and welcomed by many.
We are blessed to have the technology to still be able to connect with our church family and beyond.
ARE WE THERE YET?
Understandably, people are getting impatient and are wondering when we will be able to gather for worship again. We continue to pay attention to public health orders and provincial guidelines. Rest assured, we will endeavour to contact everybody when we are able to invite you back to worship!
OPTIONS FOR OFFERINGS:
1. Sign up for PAR. This is an automatic debit on the 20th of each month. It costs 50 cents a month.
2. Give through the MNO synod website (mentioned below). However, Canada Helps receives 4% of each donation.
3. E-transfers are now available by contacting Sharon Appler.
4. Send in the mail.

May 23 ,2020
Dear Luther Village Community,
The Luther Village Board has been meeting weekly to keep abreast of the ever-changing regulations that will affect this year's camping season. We have been monitoring announcements from both Manitoba and Ontario provincial governments. We have been in close contact with the MPP for Kenora and surrounding area and will continue to try and make the best decisions we can based on the information. This is what you need to know right now:
1. There will be no overnight kids camps this season. The Luther Village staff will be contacting those affected.
2. We are committed to providing some form of alternative programming for the summer. Luther Village programming is the ministry of the camp and we recognize the importance of continuing to connect with our campers throughout the summer.
3. We continue to wait on decisions to be made around cabin rentals (Ontario government), campground regulations (Ontario government), and inter-provincial quarantine rules (Manitoba government).
4. As per the Ontario guidelines, only those who have a seasonal lease at Luther Village are permitted access to their site.
At this time, we remain hopeful that campers will be able to enjoy the beauty of Luther Village this summer season. We will continue to update you as information becomes available. Thank you to you, our wonderful community, for continuing to support Luther Village through your thoughts, prayers and financial contributions. We feel your love every time we meet.
In Christ,
The Luther Village Board

Palliative Manitoba 2020 Grief Seminars:
Bereavement Services
Death is a natural part of life and finding one’s way through grief is to discover that there is no right or wrong way to grieve. Your experience of grief will be unique. Grieving is normal, but it can be difficult, and support after a loved one’s death can be helpful.
Telephone Bereavement Program
Palliative Manitoba offers one-to-one telephone support by trained volunteers for grieving individuals throughout Manitoba. This program offers a safe environment to grieving individuals where they can speak openly about their feelings. Each individual can expect to receive a weekly call from a trained volunteer once a match has been made. A match can last for 12 – 15 months.
Please note this is not a 24 hour service or a crisis line. This is not professional counselling but rather a friendly support. Clients will be matched with a volunteer following an intake with a Palliative Manitoba staff member. This may take several weeks to be assigned to a volunteer depending on how busy we are.
Please call our office for more information or to sign up for service at 204-889-8525.
For those in crisis please contact Klinic Crisis Line at 204-786-8686

LUM:
May 2020 News from your Ministry Manager
Until further notice, the Urban has suspended all regular programming (sit-down community meals, coffee hours, sharing circles, men’s group, worship services, etc.), in the lower level of Lutheran Church of the Cross, due to the provincial COVID-19 pandemic situation. This is an especially difficult time for our city’s most vulnerable citizens.
Postponed until further notice: The remaining Thursday “Get Better Together” workshops (with lunch incl.) facilitated by the Wellness Institute; and the remaining “Mental Wellness Facilitated Co-ed Sharing Circles” (grant from WRHA), facilitated by the Canadian Mental Health Assoc.
Continuing: Winnipeg Harvest Foodbank at the Urban: Those registered for Winnipeg Harvest Foodbank will continue to pick up their hampers on foodbank days. However, each hamper is brought outside the side door to the recipient.
Please keep our vulnerable Lutheran Urban Ministry community in your prayers.
Please visit our website! (www.theurban.ca). Also, check out: The Lutheran Urban Ministry Short Documentary Film: Hope is Never Lost (12 minutes) captures the heart and soul of the Urban. View from our website or through YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FatPtzT9HhY Please contact me: rhonda@theurban.ca for additional information, or to have your meal team added to the calendar.
We welcome all because God welcomes all, regardless of age, ability, health, ethnicity, gender identity, language, sexual orientation, life circumstances, marital status, race, or anything else which sometimes divides us. We welcome diversity and uniqueness. Our unity is in Christ, whose grace is freely given to all. All are welcome.
Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 10, 2020: 75 bagged lunches were distributed outside on Mother’s Day, including a gift bag for all of the women who attended (on trolley in the photo). Each gift bag contained donated grocery items, treats, and full sized Avon products and Avon summer flip-flops.
A Sunday worship message for printing is sent to me weekly from Pastor Barry Bence who preaches once a month at the Urban. This is tucked into every Sunday lunch bag and also his mid-week devotional finds its way into every Wednesday supper bagged lunch.
The Urban is a primary place of worship for many who attended regularly - average attendance for worship has been 80. There are so many pleased comments that “Pastor Barry” has sent his worship service. Spiritual care provided with the sandwich!!
I am also receiving prayer requests in place of the slips of paper that in “regular times” are added to our Sunday prayer bucket to be read during the prayers of the church.
Kind regards,
Rhonda Gorham Ministry Manager
