LUTHER VILLAGE:

Going to Luther Village was a really fun experience, especially because my best friend Alicia came.  When we were there, we had a lot of tasty food, like chicken, Mac and cheese, pizza buns and more. We also did a lot of fun activities like swimming crafts and other awesome things too. I made a lot of new friends while I was there. All the counsellors were really nice, and they made the week even more fun and exciting! I was so thankful that I got to go to Luther Village this year. Thanks to everyone who helped so we could go to camp this year.

Over the summer, bring non-perishable food items and place in the container in our entry.  These will be included in chili.

  • Bring fresh carrots/celery/onions to be included in chili about a week before and we will store them in the fridge down in our kitchen.

Bring a pot of prepared Vegetarian or Meat chili on September 15th.

Bring bannock or cupcakes on September 15th.

Join us at Lutheran Church of the Cross to help serve.

2019 RIDE FOR REFUGE:

Dear St. Luke’s Zion Lutheran Church,

Would St. Luke Zion Lutheran Church consider forming a team to ride and/or walk for the Urban in the 2019 Ride for Refuge on Saturday, Oct. 5th?

Event info: https://rideforrefuge.org/location/winnipeg

(scroll down to bottom of page to see list of teams)

Frequently Asked Question: https://rideforrefuge.org/faq

To register your team or donate to an Urban team:  https://rideforrefuge.org/charity/theurban

The Urban is taking part in our third Ride for Refuge (a 5 km walk in North Kildonan, or a 10, 25 or 50 km bike ride leaving from North Kildonan riding north) on October 5, 2019.  The pledges for the teams for the Urban are allocated to the Urban (minus the Blue Sea Philanthropy admin costs determined by the amount raised for the Urban).

It was a beautiful day last year and the event was really well organized!!  I'm really hoping to have at least 8 teams this year!  The Urban is so happy to be a part of this event.  All of the teams had fun!

Last year the Ride for Refuge took place in cities across Canada raising money for over 150 charities and many in Manitoba - charities that provide refuge and hope for displaced, vulnerable and exploited people everywhere.

The walking route is once again in North Kildonan (totally organized by Blue Sea Philanthropy - police direction on route, insurance for walkers/bike riders, snacks, lunch, t-shirts, etc.).  The ride route begins in North Kildonan going north.

Please contact me if you have questions.  Links to Ride for Refuge are also on our www.theurban.ca website.

Thanks so much,

Rhonda Gorham

Ministry Manager
