10TH ANNIVERSARY On Sunday, December 2nd, we will be marking 10 years for St. Luke's Zion and are planning a hot meal after church service that day. We have a committee that will be giving out tickets for the meal starting this Sunday October 28th after the church service. The tickets will help us determine how many people will attend the lunch and how much food is needed for the lunch. We also are asking people for a food donation or monetary donation to help with the items needed to make it a successful celebration. Bishop Elaine Sauer will be our guest preacher that day and will be with us for lunch. If you have any interest in being part of a short program after lunch, please let Pastor Lynne know. Short skits, songs, poems or jokes would be welcome.

FOUR CORNERS St. Luke's Zion supports international relief and development through Canadian Lutheran World Relief (CLWR). One way CLWR enables us to support our brothers and sisters around the world is through Four Corners, the alternative trade arm of CLWR. Alternative trade allows us to buy a wide range of items, paying overseas farmers and workers a fair price for the goods they produce. When people are paid fairly for their labour, they can save up money to buy medicine, send their children to school, improve their living conditions and invest in their community. When farmers are consistently paid a fair price for their crops, they can confidently reinvest the earnings into the land, and are more likely to embrace environmentally friendly and sustainable farming techniques. Here is just a sampling of what Four Corners offers: " Brilliantly carved mango wood vases and candleholders from Thailand " Handmade jewellery from India, Nepal and Peru " Leather wallets, ring boxes and frames from Bangladesh " Olive wood carvings from Jerusalem " Handmade rugs from India " Papier mâché products from Thailand " Full line of fairly traded consumables
Four Corners has its main retail centre at the CLWR office right here in our neighbourhood! They are located near Garden City Shopping Centre, at 1080 Kingsbury Avenue. We can support Four Corners in several ways: 1. Visit the retail shop for exclusive jewellery, home décor products and more. 2. For your next school, sport team or church fundraiser use Four Corners fair trade coffee, tea and chocolate. 3. Four Corners is a great place to find a gift for the person who already has everything. 4. Host a consignment sale.
A display and sale of a small selection of the items promoted by Four Corners will be found in the church foyer the following Sundays:
November 18, 25, & December 2

Why Remember? We must remember. If we do not, the sacrifice of those one hundred thousand Canadian lives will be meaningless. They died for us, for their homes and families and friends, for a collection of traditions they cherished and a future they believed in; they died for Canada. The meaning of their sacrifice rests with our collective national consciousness; our future is their monument. Taken from the Veteran Affairs Canada Website
