CONFIRMATION
An information session for prospective 1st year confirmation students and their parents will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 12th at 6:00 p.m. at the church. This is a good chance to ask lots of questions and to decide if you will attend confirmation or not.
Actual confirmation classes for both 1st and 2nd year students will begin on Wednesday, Sept. 26th at 6:00 p.m. Classes will be on Wednesdays from 6 to 7 p.m.

NATIONAL BISHOP'S ORDINATION
A service of ordination for newly elected national bishop Susan Johnson will be held on Saturday, September 29th at 3:00 p.m. at Lutheran Church of the Cross (560 Arlington St.) in Winnipeg. All are welcome to attend.  (Please note that the location has changed from Faith Lutheran to Church of the Cross)

FOUR WEEK COURSE
A new course entitled "What's Enough?" will be offered on Thursday evenings beginning on October 11th. Sessions will run from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. The course is subtitled "Making Faithful Decisions in a Consumer Society." You are welcome for all 4 sessions, or just for one or two.
Here's the description for session one, just to see if it whets your appetite:
"Why is it that we put off making important decisions about our financial future? Join us for "Enough Procrastination!" as we explore the topic of financial blessings and how to make sure we are responsibly caring for what God has entrusted to us. Whether you think you know nothing about finances or a lot, this session is for you! We'll do some learning and have some laughs without sharing any personal information."
The other three sessions are entitled "Enough for Now?", "Enough for the Future?" and "Enough to Make a Difference?" Please let Pastor Lynne know if you are interested in attending.

SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS
Do you have the gifts and the desire to teach Sunday school this year? Speak to either Pastor Lynne or to Val Kunkel if you are ready and willing to serve!

LADIES' GROUP
Here we go again ladies! September has come fast upon us. The ladies will meet on Saturday, September 22nd.
We have the banners to go over - repair, re-hang, refurbish, a general taking stock. Let us meet at 10:30 am and plan to go out for lunch after. The banners look so beautiful and add very nicely to our Sunday worship.

PRAYER, SUPPORT & GROWTH
Are you interested in gathering together with others for prayer, mutual support and spiritual growth? If you would like to be part of such a group, please speak to Pastor Lynne.

N.E.S.T.
N.E.S.T. has welcomed our newest family, the Munamba family, from the Congo, July 4th. They are the mother, Bertine and her 3 sons Leonard (17), Dieu-Donne (13), Dona (8), and daughter Claudine (5). They have settled in their new home, an apartment on Gray Street.
"Thank you" to St. Luke 's Zion for their support of N.E.S.T. "Thank you" to Laura Genyk for handcrafting a lovely quilt coverlet and a donation for bed linens, (Warm comfort!), and to Don Streilein for delivering a 26-inch T.V. (Much appreciated!)
The family have been blessed to have the help of Guadelive Tshiowa, a former friend, who herself experienced the move to a new and "strange" home, and resides close by!
God's blessing to all!
Dorothy Handkamer

Poet's Corner

The Lord Is My Teacher
(a psalm prayer)

Lord,
You are my Teacher,
for You are the truth.
You give me the rules of life,
for You are the way.
You lead me ever deeper into your wisdom,
for You are its Life.
Even when I become frustrated and fearful,
Your word gives me direction.
Through Your law and your gospel,
Your prophets and apostles,
Your writers, past and present,
You grant me a mine of wisdom
deep enough to last a lifetime of discovery.
With this great wealth of knowledge
may I through Your Spirit's guidance
become Your pupil-teacher,
A teacher who leads others to You, O Lord.
You are my teacher for You are
the Way, the Truth and the Life.

Anna McDonald
