NEST:
We are looking forward to the celebration of NEST’s 30th Anniversary at Grace Lutheran Church on Saturday, Sept.17, 4-7 p.m.
There is ‘no charge’ except a pot-luck dish. All are welcome to share in the fellowship and supper and hear the stories of former refugees who have made their ‘new home’ in Canada. We also want to make sure everyone is aware that Grace Lutheran Church has a no nut policy due to some members' severe air-borne allergies to nuts. This includes coconut, soy products and pine nuts.
We are not expecting any new arrivals during the coming year. Applications for families (2 from Sudan, 1 from Congo) were submitted in 2008 and 2009. An application from another family from the Congo was made in 2015 and they have relatives already settled here. One of the families (2008) will be having a second interview (which is good news!) on September 28th and we pray that all goes well.
Upcoming:
NEST General Meeting will be held on September 27th, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church.
All are welcome! Refreshments to follow
We give thanks for your continued prayers and support.

ST. LUKE’S ZION’S KIDS at
LUTHER VILLAGE CAMP - 2016
Tayla:
Luther Village
Day 1 – Friday Night
My Aunty B and her boyfriend Jason drove me there because his Mom lives in Kenora. We got there on Friday night about 9:30. What did you do when you got there? I had a snack and I went to a meet up. All the kids were there. We made partners for groups and mine were Marley, who is 8, and Hanna, who is 7. I also met my councilors, but forgot their names.
We got along really really well. Marley and me were best friends. We went back to our cabin and had a Dance Party. It was so fun. The best song was “Shake It Off”. Then we went to sleep.
Day 2 – Saturday
We got up and went to breakfast. We had cereal, yogurt, fruit and juice. Then we went on a bog walk. A bog is a big pond and it has a bunch of plants around it. There is a very thin plant that if you stepped on you would sink into the bog. We had to wear rain boot. There was lots of bugs. We had lunch, spaghetti, and then quiet time. Then changed into our bathing suits and put on life jackets. We went on a speed boat. It was really fun. Then we had supper of chicken fingers, salad, potatoes and juice. We went back to our cabins for a while and then went to the meeting place. We talked about having church service on Sunday. Then we made paper hands and went back to the cabin to sleep.
Day 3 – Sunday
We woke up and had breakfast. Then went to the church service and we wrote something special on our hands. I wrote “I am special because I have a nice family”. We sang songs and one was from the service at Kildonan Park. After we went and got our bathing suits on and went swimming and tubing. Tubing was really really fun! We went to the cafeteria and got a camp shirt and I waited for my Aunty B and Jason to pick me up to go home!
It was soooo fun I want to go back next year.
Thank you for helping me go to camp.

Thera:
My Third year at Luther Village: So this was my Third year at Luther Village and it was awesome! I stayed in Fox Den, and my Councillors were Monelle and Melissa. They are both so nice. All of the Councillors are always so nice.
I’m really thankful that I got to go for another year.
I’m also very happy that Madi came with me.
I did some things that I've never done before, like Kayaking which was fun even though I fell off twice.
I met so many nice people and made great friends.
I made great memories. Luther Village is a great place to make memories and they will always with me in my heart. Thank you so much for the awesome memories and I'm excited for more memories too make! I can't thank everybody enough who made this happen; and a big Thank You St Luke’s Zion for the opportunity to go to Luther Village! I just can't put into words how thankfull I am; its amazing that I can go to a place so great. I hope when I have kids they can have those memories too! I also hope someday I can work at Luther Village during the summer.
Sincerily-Thera
Kaiden:
This was my first sleepover camp and my first time at Luther Village. My friend Aiden was in the same cabin so it was fun. Some of my favorite things that I did there was campfire, fiddle jam, and breakfast. It was fun cause we were always doing something fun like relay races and swimming. I can't wait to go back next year.

Aidan:
This was my first time going to camp and it was fun! There was a lot of fun activities like: kyacking, tubing and archery. My favorite activity was tubing because it was going so fast the water blasted in your face it was EXTREME! I look forward to go back next yea

A Back to School Prayer:
As you head off to school today, this is what we pray for you:
We pray that your day will go smoothly – that your locker will open, that you’ll get
to class on time, that you won’t forget anything, that you’ll find friends in your
classes.
We pray that your teacher will know just how to teach you in a way that you will
love to learn.
We pray that you will make friends who will have your back, make you laugh and
will make you better.
We pray that you’ll have the opportunity to be the light of Jesus to someone.
We pray that you will always be kind, even in the face of conflict.
We pray that you will seek out the new person or the lonely person and help them
find their place.
We pray that you’ll learn to be a leader.
We pray that you will do everything to the best of your ability – even when you
don’t want to.
We pray that you’ll have confidence from knowing you are a child of God.
We pray that if things go wrong, you’ll always remember that God loves you and
so do we.
We pray that you’ll laugh a lot during the day.
We pray that you will follow in Jesus’ footsteps and grow in wisdom.
Most of all, we pray that this year will be filled with learning, growth, joy and fun.
Have a great year!
