N.E.S.T. NEWS:
There has been no further news from Canada Immigration for the refugee families (4 full sponsorships) from the Sudan and Congo – now living in camps in Kenya and Burunda. There will be need for ‘care-givers’ when they arrive to make their new homes in Canada.
The ISSA family from Iraq (arrived Nov. 30, 2015, and receiving ‘care’ from members of the Messiah Lutheran Church, are doing well). Father (HANI) and Mother (SLVANA) are attending orientation classes and being assessed re: ESL. The 2 older children, 11 and 9 years, attend elementary school. Eye examinations revealed all will need glasses. This is a ‘Blended Visa Office Referral’, where NEST and CANADA IMMIGRATION share the financial cost throughout the first year.
Policy guidelines re: ‘care-givers’, and Police Record Checks, etc. were revised and updates made. These are available on request.
NEST has been ‘Encorporated’ and it has been moved that the address of Grace Lutheran Church at 211 Kimberley Avenue be accepted as the ‘Official address’ for NEST. The ‘encorporation’ was made to protect any individuals from financial claims.
NEST thanked the Financial Secretary RUSS BENNETT for his years of excellent service, as he wished to step down due to further commitments. We were happy to welcome a member from the Abundant Life Lutheran Church, Norma Zyla, who has volunteered her services, and who has had experience in this field.
The Pot-luck supper at the St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Narol (North Henderson Highway) was thoroughly enjoyed. ‘Food’ was plentiful with an ethnic variety! We especially enjoyed the welcome and warmth of the Congregation, who worship in a small but beautiful Sanctuary. NEST and Church members ESTHER JUCE sand short folk songs, accompanying herself on the stringed instrument, BANDURA.
.

Luther's Coat of Arms
In 1530, while Martin Luther was still living in Coburg Castle, Prince John Frederick ordered a signet ring for him that was characteristic of Luther's theology.
The black cross on a heart (faith in Christ who died and rose again) rests on a white rose (joy, comfort, and peace beyond that of this world) in a sky-blue field (the beginning of a heavenly joy), and is encircled with a gold ring (the eternal and precious possession of salvation).
