MUSIC DIRECTOR SEARCH

After many months of advertising, contacts and interviews, we have hired a music director for St. Luke's Zion.  Her name is Faith Peters, and she comes to us from a Mennonite background.  Faith will begin her music ministry at St. Luke's Zion after Easter, and her first Sunday with us will be April 15th.

At the same time as we look forward to welcoming Faith into our midst, we are also extremely grateful to Donna Engel for capably serving as our interim music director.  It has been a joy to have Donna in our midst during this "in between" time!

Thank you to Donna, and thank you to those who have been volunteering their time on the search committee:  Colleen Einarson, Dorrie Kitchen, Dianne Stark, and Teresa Rumley.

 SUNDAY SCHOOL EASTER PLAY

The Sunday School children invite you to their Easter play, "Morning Glory" which will be held during the service on Sunday, April 22nd, 2007.  Following the service, please join the Sunday School children who will be hosting a "Breakfast in Galilee" downstairs.

THANK YOU

Mary (Winnie") Gorner, our "Century Lady" gives our Lord thanks - "Great is Thy Faithfulness to me"  (her favourite hymn), and extends her warm "Thank you" to St. Luke's Zion for the lovely card and personal wishes as she celebrated her very special occasion on March 10th!

Winnie would like to share this prayer for you:

"The Lord grant you happiness

      to keep your heart light

Challenges to make you strong

Wisdom to give you understanding

And blessing your whole life long."

 ANNUAL MEETING FOLLOW-UP

Thank you to all those who participated and contributed their ideas during the "10 minute outreach exercise" at the annual meeting.  The results indicated that there are many good ideas out there and that, as a group, we are currently on many different pages (as opposed to being on the same page J).

Some of the ideas for outreach included the following:

  • Singing/programs in a mall
  • Rent/buy a bus/van
  • Vacation Bible School
  • A door-to-door campaign
  • Address the drug problem in the community

As the outreach committee reviewed the list of ideas, our observation was that most of the ideas on the list require people power - active, interested volunteers who are willing to work on a particular project.  Until such people present themselves, we are working on projects which we feel we can manage at this time.

One of those projects is simply to keep in better touch through the mail, phone and website with those who are currently not attending worship (both members and non-members who are on our contact list).  This project will undoubtedly expand as we get better at it.

In the mean time, if you happen to be one of those active, interested volunteers who want to take on a specific project, please speak to Pastor Lynne.  Keep in mind, too, that the best outreach is always personal invitations to people whom you know.  Let's make the best possible use of the people and resources which are part of this Christian community!

N.E.S.T.

N.E.S.T. will be holding their 21st Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, April 24th, 7:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 211 Kimberly Ave., East Kildonan (just east of Henderson Hwy.)  Refreshments will follow.

All are invited as we review the year!

Come & See!

This is a request for in-season SPRING OR SUMMER clothing. There is always a need for SOCKS, so if your sock drawer is overflowing with socks you no longer wear, get together with your fellow congregation members and arrange delivery to 441 Sherbrook.

 "THE FOOT OF CALVARY"

"The Foot of Calvary" C.D. has raised $1500.00 for New Life Ministries in memory of Rev. Harry Lehotsky.  Friends and family living in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, and New Brunswick have

received the C.D. so you might say: "It's being heard across the country!"  Some C.D.s also made their way to Michigan and Connecticut.

If you didn't know about it or haven't had the chance to read it there is an insert in the C.D. package please take the time to do so. It gives a little background on some of the songs that were written and why we chose the songs we did.

We marvel at how God has used this C.D. to reach many people with the gospel message and once again would like to give Him all the glory.

On behalf of Billious Pond and in Christ's love,

Bill Rumley

WHITE IS

White is the colour used

In my walk of faith celebrations.

As an infant of eight days

      Dressed in white

I was baptized into the faith.

As a child of seven

      Dressed in white

I sang in the Cherub Choir.

As a teenager of fourteen

      Dressed in white

I reaffirmed my baptismal vows.

At all high festivals the church is

      Adorned in white

On lectern, pulpit and altar too.

White is, to me,

      A Symbol of purity,

                        Of peace and hope,

                        And of God's eternal love.
