ONLINE DEVOTIONS:

In the past, some of you have appreciated the online devotions offered by Lutherans Connect (a branch of Lutheran Campus Ministry in Toronto).  Normally they have offered this during Advent or Lent, but now are starting a new series today.  It doesn't look like there will be devotions every day, but they are well worth looking at if you haven't tried it before.  Here's the link:  http://lcfeastingwithsaints.blogspot.ca/2015/05/day-1.html

The $45 participant fee includes meals, accommodation, and use of the camp facility from June 5-7. Your family and friends can come along to cheer you on. Pledges are required – visit our website to learn more.

**Small Fry Camp is the perfect opportunity for Grade 2 & 3 kids to experience youth camp at Luther Village for the first time. It's like a big sleepover with friends and counsellors who are dedicated to making this a safe weekend of fun and friendships. June 26-28, just $99+HST. http://luthervillage.ca/youthcamps.html

***Please note if any of the children are interested in attending the Luther Village Camps, the registration costs for Luther Village can be paid by the congregation.  Each of the past few years, the congregation has set aside a certain amount from the bequest to send children and youth to Luther Village.  For anybody who registers and pays the deposit, the congregation can pay the rest. For more information refer to the Luther Village booklet on the table in the church narthex.

NEST:

***At the NEST General Meeting held on May 26th, we were happy to welcome FIKRE TSEHAI, who is the refugee coordinate at CLWR, working in Vancouver. He (along with our coordinator Jim Mair) attended the Canadian Council for Refugee’s, Spring Consultation in Winnipeg.  He commented on the present refugee situation and Canada’s position.

***NEST will apply for Canada Immigration’s special offer called ‘Blended Visa Office Referred’ (BVOR), which provides ‘Interim Federal Health’ (IFH). In addition to full health, they provide 6 months of living allowance. NEST is to provide ‘start up’ costs and the other 6 months living allowance. Messiah Lutheran become the ‘care givers’ – find accommodations, help orient and settle (furnish a family of 4 – 6 people or could be single persons).

***St. Mark’s Lutheran will be celebrating their 125th Anniversary this year and they have some interest in NEST.

***There is no current ‘Fundraiser’ in the process.  ‘Ideas’ are welcomed!

***‘Thank You’ to Kildonan United for the May Potluck Dinner. Approximately 80 guests enjoyed the different ethnic dishes, (the donation to NEST to be confirmed). Kildonan United also gifted NEST with $266.00 from their disbandment of their choir, ‘Seven Oaks Singers’.

THE LIGHTER SIDE:

A kindergarten teacher was observing her classroom of children while they drew. She would occasionally walk around to see each child's artwork. As she came to one little girl who was working diligently, she asked what the drawing was.

The girl replied, "I'm drawing God."

The teacher paused and said, "But no one knows what God looks like."

Without missing a beat, or looking up from her drawing the girl replied, "They will in a minute."

WEST KILDONAN HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY:

Will be having their Fiesta Day Plant Sale on June 6th from 10 to 2 at Seven Oaks Arboretum, located at Partridge Avenue and Andrews Street.

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!

Let us praise those fathers who have striven to balance the demands of work, marriage, and children with an honest awareness of both joy and sacrifice. Let us praise those fathers who, lacking a good model for a father, have worked to become a good father.

Let us praise those fathers who by their own account were not always there for their children, but who continue to offer those children, now grown, their love and support. Let us pray for those fathers who have been wounded by the neglect and hostility of their children.

Let us praise those fathers who, despite divorce, have remained in their children's lives. Let us praise those fathers whose children are adopted, and whose love and support has offered healing.

Let us praise those fathers who, as stepfathers, freely choose the obligation of fatherhood and earned their step children's love and respect. Let us praise those fathers who have lost a child to death, and continue to hold the child in their heart.

Let us praise those men who have no children, but cherish the next generation as if they were their own.

Let us praise those men who have "fathered" us in their role as mentors and guides.

Let us praise those men who are about to become fathers; may they openly delight in their children.

And let us praise those fathers who have died, but live on in our memory and whose love continues to nurture us.
