Soup “n” Pie
1997 - 17 years ago, St. Luke's and Zion had their first worship together. The first Sunday in Advent, a fitting day to get together and celebrate with a meal. Soup 'n' Pie.... pass the word around! Old friends, new friends, let's get together and share. Sunday, Nov 30th after worship service. Come one come all.
NEST
A copy of the letter that was sent to the trustee of Christ Lutheran Church is posted on the bulletin board. Christ Lutheran had generously gifted NEST with $30,000.00. This was surely much appreciated, and has significantly reduced our current liability (future commitments) to $15,470.00 as of Sept. 2014.
The Winnipeg Steel Orchestra Fundraiser held on Oct. 4, 2014 at Grace Lutheran Church treated its audience with an evening of special, varied music, much enjoyed by all. NEST benefited by the sum of $2,419.25 (200 tickets sold).
Updates of Refugees:
The OKBE family – MUSIE, his wife ASTER and son, MARDOCHAI (8), originally from Eritrea, arrived Sept. 17, 2014 (applied 2011). When they arrived in Eastern Canada, they chose to live with family in Windsor. They remain the responsibility of NEST for 1 year.
The KOBWA family (Dec, 2013), originally from the Congo – mother KAHINDISA, son CLAUDE (19) and 3 young relatives SHAURI (22), SANDRA (20) and BRENDA (17) are doing well. They are currently looking for housing in St, Boniface (closer to schools). After a learning period, CLAUDE is being hired at Palliser’s Furniture. They all finished summer English courses and will continue education. SANDRA is also working part-time at office cleaning.
St. Luke’s Zion has offered to make up and send Christmas Hampers to 2 refugee families. These were formerly sent by Christ Lutheran Church. NEST Churches will again be sending hampers to families. Please watch for details of items needed or to be included in the hampers. Thank You!

In Flanders Fields
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
