Wednesday, October 1st, 2014click here for past entriesGreetings from the Lutheran Urban Ministry, Downtown-Winnipeg
The focus of this request is aimed, not at those who attend regular worship services and already contribute through their offering to us, but to those who are no longer sitting in the pews on Sunday. This could be adult children, or grandchildren of members, or friends or anyone who wants to be involved and wants to help us and just doesn't have the time, or is too far away, but wants to still make a difference and can only do it financially. We would ask your members to have conversations with their family and friends and tell them we need their help. We do not receive any government funding and those congregations which have been faithfully supporting us, are also aging and we need more help. I have found that people want to help and in many cases are willing to help once asked. It is easy to ask for money when it is to do mission work because it is not for us personally. I was picking up supplies for the Urban in a local grocery store and mentioned to the sales clerk it was for a charity, and another customer over-heard the conversation and walked over and gave me $20.00 and he was a complete stranger. People want to help so please ask them.
Those who work often are able to have payroll deductions for their charitable contributions through the United Way Campaign. United Way forms have a blank spot on the end which allows people to add charities that are not listed as regular recipients. They have the option to add us and they can specify how much of their donation they want to come to us and how much to the United Way.
To add us, they need the following:
Lutheran Urban Ministry, 560 Arlington St. Winnipeg, MB, R3G 1Z5 and our registered Charity number is: 85198 8592 RR0001
If anyone has any questions about this, please have them contact me at either;
deb@theurban.ca or 204-774-3143 and I will be more than happy to help explain this.
God's Peace be with you all.

"Our commitment is to enrich the lives of those who give and of those who receive"
October is Back to Church Month. Who has God been preparing in your life?
Ten Steps to Extending an Invitation
- Pray. Ask God to show you who in your life might be open to an invitation to church.
- Think of people you know who don’t attend church.
- Pray some more.
- Identify who you could invite to come to church with you.
- Pray for the courage to extend the invitation. Pray that God will be at work in their heart.
- Pick a Sunday in October when you know you will be able to come to church.
- Pray some more.
- Extend the invitation: Would you like to come to church with me this Sunday?
- If they say yes, offer to pick them up if you can. At the very least, sit with them.
- Continue to pray that God would be at work in their hearts.
