Scheduled for August 24-27 at LutherVillage, ON. Camp is open to youth in grades 7-9 in congregations in the synod who can get to LV. Participating congregations provide program leadership and the camp staff provide meals, morning/evening music and skits, and recreational activities.
As 2014 is a national youth gathering year, attendance at confirmation camp could be impacted. Please indicate your intention to participate in camp to Annemarie MacIntosh @ allifepastor@mts.net as soon as possible. Plans for sessional leadership will then get underway.
NEST UPDATE:
The NEST Board of Directors thanks ChristLutheranChurch for all its support the past 25 years, thanking God for their generosity and dedication to refugee sponsorship. Their representatives Jim Mair and Howard Engel have become members-at-large and nominated to continue to serve on the Board. NEST membership Churches are declining as Trinity and Christ Lutheran Churches have disbanded. There is need to recruit new member Churches and to this end follow-up is being made to the Atlantic/Garden City United Church and Sherwood ParkLutheranChurches. NEST coordinator Jim Mair will be making a presentation at the Lutheran Metro Ministerial Conference in May 2014. The Board is open to other ideas for promoting NEST and recruiting MemberChurches.
The Kobiva family, who arrived on December 12th are continuing to ‘settle in’, supported by the caregiver team, former Congo refugees, once the CongoleseChurch in downtown Winnipeg. It is interesting to note the Canadian Immigration Council now only give winter clothing to those refugees they have requested (those “at risk” or “joint-assisted”) All others will be arriving with what they left in – sandals, shorts, no jackets! NEST has supplied blankets and warm jackets to cover and protect them from the very cold weather (in addition to “start-up funds”). They are coping well and still happy to be here! The family have been registered for the “Manitoba Start Program” and are currently in the “Entry Program” (helping with “cultural shock” and beneficial information)
Next General Meeting will be held Tuesday, March 25 at 7:00 pm at GraceLutheranChurch located at 211 Kimberley Avenue, EK

POET’S CORNER
A Toast to Bread
BREAD. The staff of Life. One important component of the health chart and so we continue to pray: Give us this day our daily bread.
BREAD. The tantalizing aroma of fresh baked bread. How it arouses our senses to its refreshing taste. We walk through the bakery aisles and lose count of its many varieties. Together let us name some: white, brown and rye; fruit, cherry and sourdough; seven grain, twelve grain and alfalfa plain; cheese, onion, garlic, alpine, pumpernickel; organic; and the list goes on. Let us not forget those specialty breads throughout the year: German stolen for Christmas, Ukrainian paska for Easter, English hot cross buns for Good Friday, and Jewish Matzah for the Passover.
BREAD. What do we do with leftover bread? Here are some of my favorite uses: stuffing for chicken, goose and turkey; ground crumbs to enhance the taste of fish, chicken and pork; delicious for dried fruit bread pudding; and even may be made into coconut sweet bread fingers for dessert. But to me, chicken soup would never be complete without round butter-bread dumplings (with lots of allspice). Are you ready to add to my list? Please do.
This litany to BREAD would not be complete without the words of Jesus at the Last supper when he took the bread and broke it, saying: "Take, eat, this is my body, broken for you." BREAD sanctified.
"Come, let us break bread together."
