NEST:
It is always good news to hear of the safe arrival of a “refugee” family to Canada and “home”. On December 12th, NEST was happy to greet the KOBWA family, originally from the Congo. At our January 28th meeting, NEST members were able to personally welcome the mother, KAHINDISA and her 4 children (2 adopted relatives) – sons CLAUDE (19) and SHAURI (22) and daughters BELINDA (17) and SANDRA (20), who were accompanied by one of the care-giver team, Linda Lurvey (Sherwood Park L.C). Please note the corrected names and ages as were slated in the 2013 year end report.
The family have been ‘warmly’ settled in an apartment in St. Boniface, thanks to their helpful landlords. The younger people attend the St. Boniface Collegiate, while the others attend E.S.L. All speak French fluently (have a few members who do!), and were smiling throughout the session and refreshments. Their application had been submitted in October 2010.
There were sufficient furnishings and goods. NEST is in need of “free” storage space, as we have been offered furniture and household goods – in anticipation of the future arrival of registered families.
The “Applebee Restaurant” (fundraiser) “Flapjack Breakfast” was a success, as it netted $1,170.00, and may be repeated in November 2014 or early January 2015.

Prayerfully submitted

Youth Leaders Training Opportunity
Saturday, March 1, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at Catholic Centre, 622 Tache Ave.
This is an event not to be missed. What is the latest research showing about youth ministry in Canada? You will learn some things about the changing landscape of youth ministry in the church, why some older models are no longer working and so on.
The workshops will offer some things that you can do to address the changing landscape. Cost is $20.00 which includes a wonderful catered lunch. This is for experienced and junior youth leaders, confirmation and youth Sunday School teachers. Within this training day, there will also be some designated "Lutheran meeting" time.
