In December it is very easy for our family's wants and needs, and the rampant consumerism of our society, to prevent us from remembering our connection to the rest of the world. Take an hour every Sunday evening to connect with the rocks and trees, animals and other people who share our planet. Winnipeg Centre KAIROS and Our Saviour's Lutheran Church invite you to Growing Justice, a series of Advent services based on materials provided by KAIROS, every Sunday evening at 7:30 at 600 Minto Street (behind the Palomino Club – parking in their parking lot.) Services are suitable for children. 204-232-5313.

December / Peace
This is the season
When Jew, Christian and Muslim
Proclaim their message of hope,
The message of peace on earth.
Peace on earth.
Is it possible?
What a high ideal!
Peace: hope for all mankind.
Peace: the absence of war.
Peace: joy and contentment.
Peace: the gift of shalom
To all who desire peace.
But nations continue to search
For peace with weapons of destruction;
For peace with words full of promises
All are wrapped up in lies.
However, I will continue
To believe that
Peace on earth, goodwill toward all
Is possible.
Because peace begins
With you and me, on that small scale
Of living the law of
"Love you neighbour as yourself:.

Christmas Celebration
The question was asked the other day
"Why do you celebrate Christmas?"
The businessman was quick to reply,
"It is the time of the year that sales go sky high.
With profits that keep us on our feet
We too will give a token for the poor and the meek."
The children await with great anticipation
Santa's visit, in anxious trepidation.
The family has its own schedules of preparation
It is a hustle and a bustle, Much fuss and even some cusses
Buying, partying, wrapping and sighing
All for the great celebration of Christmas.
But there are those few, the faithful, the lonely, the elderly,
Who now wait for the Christmas mass celebration
The only true reason for all this jubilation.
They long for the refreshing and renewal of the words:
Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace, good will toward all people.
They pray that somewhere under all this human preparation
The true gift may be found
- A Saviour - and peace with both God and with all mankind.
