Urban Update Greetings from the Urban!
We had a busy summer and are now gearing up for the cold weather ahead. Living conditions have changed for some of our members who are now on the street so we pray they are able to find something suitable before it gets really cold. Those who are living on the street have no visible means of support at all and that includes social services. Thankfully we don’t have many but even one homeless person is too many in this climate. We have provided them with blankets and I am hopeful that someone knows someone and can get us a super deal on hand warmers and foot warmers. We know they have a short 4-6 hour life, however, even those few hours can be a big help to someone who is wrapped in a blanket and sleeping under a bridge or someone’s steps.
Thanks to everyone for the garden vegetables donation and all the baking and meal-teams for emergency food and clothes. It is always a happy time when we have good things to give away.
A big thank you as well to the congregations that I have been able to visit to tell what is happening and I am looking forward to my next visits. If your congregation would like me to come out to do a presentation, again please contact us. These are important to us to provide you with the information about your ministry!
Urban Update
The Urban will be holding it's Christmas store this year, if you have anything used, gently used or new to donate it would be greatly appreciated. Also we are in need of socks and slippers for our people so we can keep the floors clean at our church.
Please call before coming to ensure that either Sandy, Leslie or Rhonda is at the church to accept your donations. Number is 204-774-3143 Many thanks, Rhonda Gates
NEWS FROM NEST
On October 8th Ethel and Jim Mair (NEST) welcomed TESFAGHERGHISH (Tesfom) TEKESTE, his wife BIZEN TSEHAYE and their 2 year old daughter BETIEL (Betty) from ERITREA, via UGANDA. This is a family linked sponsorship. “TESFOM” and “BETTY” joined us happily at our meeting on Tuesday, October 22nd along with their sponsor DAWIT HABTE; BIZEN was attending her E.S.L class!
The KOBWA family, from the CONGO (via Burundi) is fully sponsored by NEST and assisted by the Sherwood Park LC, who initially made the request. Application was made in 2010. They have been successfully interviewed (and all formalities met) by Canada Immigration, and are expected to arrive before Christmas! This is a mother, KAHINDISA KOBWA, her daughter CHANCE ZOLA (18), son CLAUDE ZOLA (16) and daughter FLORENCE (14), and 3 young relatives KAHINDISA is caring for; girls SHAURI LWAMWE (21) and SANDRA LWAMWE (18) and their brother JACKON LWAMWE (14). The caregivers, including members from Sherwood Park LC will be meeting as a group shortly. There is a need for, at least, a 2 bedroom apartment. NEST has furniture and could use linens for single beds and the bunk beds.

EDITOR’S DESK:
In Flanders Fields
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
- John McCrae
