NEST:
The 27th Annual NEST Meeting was hosted by the Atlantic – Garden City United Church, on Tuesday, April 23rd, 2013 at 7:00 pm.
Observations made by chairperson Rev. Annemarie MacIntosh well summarizes the year and events.
Our Refugee Coordinator Jim Mair noted that applications take longer to process and it is harder for refugees to enter Canada and apply for citizenship. Health benefits have been cut back. Private sponsorship began in 1979 and health care was covered until June 2012. Provincial funding has not been finalized.
It was also noted that woman suffer the new regulations re: English to qualify for citizenship – having to adopt a new culture, care for home and children, with little time for E.S.L.
The officers for the new term:
Chair: Rev. Annemarie MacIntosh (ALLC)
Vice-Chair: Larry Dreger (Sherwood Park)
Treasurer: Russel Bennet (Christ Lutheran)
Secretary: Ethel Mair (Christ Lutheran)
Refugee Coordinator: Jim Mair (Christ Lutheran)

INSPIRATIONAL QUOTES
Spend some time alone every day!
Open your arms to change but don't let go of your values!
Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer!
Live a good honourable life. Then when you get older and think back, you'll be able to enjoy it a second time!
Once a year, go to somewhere you've never been before!
A Mother's Love
There are times when only a mother's love
Can understand our tears,
Can soothe our disappoints
And calm all of our fears.
There are times when only a mother's love
Can share the joy we feel
When something we've dreamed about
Quite suddenly is real.
There are times when only a mother's faith
Can help us on life's way
And inspire in us the confidence
We need from day to day.
For a mother's heart and a mother's faith
And a mother's steadfast love
Were fashioned by the angels
And sent from God above.
