Hello from the Urban.
We have a great deal of exciting news to share. The Urban is moving to a new location on October 1/12. We have entered into a covenant with Lutheran Church of the Cross and we will be moving over there to set up our base. We are most grateful for the opportunity to have the Urban in such a lovely location and we look forward to the work that will be done.
The Urban also plans to open its Christmas Store this year. The Urban sells items for a fraction of the cost and we have used the money to do something in a third world country. This year we would like to purchase goats for a family or community. It has always been very exciting for our shoppers to know that they are providing something for otherswho have little. We have purchased weaving looms in the past and this allowed women to develop skills to support their families. We will be looking for donationsfor the Christmas Store which will be open for one week in December. We will acceptgently used items as well ascrafts, Christmas trees and decorations, and any item that can be givenas a nice gift. Our most expensive items sell for $10.00.
Attention Music Lovers!
During the month of October, the Manitoba Seniors Music Festival will be happening – the only event of its kind in North America. It will include bands, choirs, orchestras, pipes & drums, jazz, Dixieland, and people like Ron Paley and Ray St. Germain. Concerts are on from Oct. 9th to 30th, all at Westminster United Church (745 Westminster Ave), and all on different nights of the week. A complete listing is available on the church bulletin board or from Pastor Lynne. Pastor Lynne also has tickets, which are $10 each. Y.A.M. Last call for "The Plunge"
The Plunge deadline has been extended until October 15th, 2012!
Take the PLUNGE into a deeper spirituality - Two synods, the Manitoba / Northwestern Ontario Synod of the ELCIC and the Northeastern Iowa Synod of the ELCA, are sponsoring a Plunge for young adults to experience the spirituality and global faithcommunity of the ecumenical centers in Geneva, Switzerland, and Taize, France. The first Plunge is scheduled for May 29-June 9, 2013. Twenty or more young adults of 18-29 years of age will go to Geneva May 29-June 2, where they will visit the World Council of Churches and Lutheran World Federation offices in the Ecumenical Center, stay at the John Knox Center, and worship at the international congregation there. Then they will travel by train to Taize for a week long retreat. These young adults will spend nine months preparing for their journey and then after their return will spend a year sharing and incorporating what they have learned in their home congregations and synods.

Bring a bag lunch, as we meet from 12-1:30 each Wednesday. “Great for new Lutherans, old Lutherans, and anyone in between!” Please let Pastor Lynne know if you are planning to attend!
