Hello friends! I am happy to tell you that at one of our October youth events we had 12 youth and 3 leaders from St. Luke’s Zion and Christ Lutheran. Not only were the numbers exciting, the events have been tones-o-fun! If you know anyone in Grades 7-12 who might be interested in joining us check out the list of activities below.
This year we are teaming up to have confirmation classes together with Christ and St. Luke’s Zion. Our first month has been great with Pastor Lynne, Pastor Peter and I taking turns teaching. The group is full of questions that really keep us on our toes! What a gift they are; I am so grateful for each one of them.
There is sometimes a worry or a pattern that after youth complete confirmation classes they participate less in worship or youth activities. It is wonderful to have a fair number of our confirmed youth active in events and worship! Thank you to parents for encouraging and supporting the older youth to stay active. We would sure miss them if they weren’t around.
Altogether, the youth are energetic, thoughtful, fun and good at incorporating new people into the group. How proud you can be of them! I sure am.

Trinity Place – Twelve years ago Pastor Ron Nelson and Trinity Lutheran Church realized that God was not searching for wise and wealthy people but was just asking people to follow God. As a result Aberdeen Mennonite Church, Aberdeen Food Pantry, First Nations Family Worship Centre, Healthy Living – Healthy Eating, Healthy Start for Mom and Me, House of Prayer, Secret Place Ministry, Trinity Food Pantry, Trinity Lutheran Church, and Urban Plunge all share space in the building at 265 Flora Avenue. They work with one another to provide programmes for and with the North End Community. We are invited to help them provide for the spiritual and human needs of inner-city residents in the North End. More information is on the bulletin board or you may call Pastor Ron at 589-3516 and go on down and see the action.

News from Nest – The NEST SUPPORT CONCERT, on Friday, October 21st was a wonderful evening of “rock” and classical music. The young people’s band made up from both congregations, entertained with guitar, keyboard, drums and vocals! A highlight was the classic guitar playing of James Kollar, a member of Christ Lutheran Church. His instrument “sang” under his touch! We thank them for sponsoring this concert for NEST, one hope for more in the future!
NEST regular monthly meeting is Tuesday, November 22nd, at 7:00 pm held at Grace Lutheran Church. Grace Lutheran Church is located at 211 Kimberley Avenue just off of Henderson Hwy.
ALL WELCOME!
We still look forward to having more representation from our church! There are several couples who serve on the Board. Could I support a “couple” from St. Luke’s Zion? We would welcome “young blood” and enthusiasm!
Annual Metro Conference Gathering
I'm glad I was free to attend the fall Metro Conference of our church on Saturday, Oct. 15 because it turned out to be an amazing experience! It was an opportunity to meet, or meet again, clergy and lay people from other congregations in Winnipeg as well as enjoy some rousing singing (led by two pastors' husbands!) and great food prepared by the ladies of Church of the Cross. You may not know that our Pastor Lynne is now the Dean of the Metro Conference and ably led this meeting.
The day started with an amusing CNN-style broadcast of local church happenings. There was a little bit of business to elect a secretary to the Metro Council, and Pastor Colleen Karlowsky was voted in. The main focus of the 4-hour event was in relation to the passage “Come away... and rest a while” from Mark 6 (36-40). Each attendee had the option of attending one of four workshops with the two most popular being a video-and-discussion group on “Living the Questions”, and a labyrinth meditation. Betty Gunn, who attended with me, and I chose the latter. I had never walked a labyrinth before and did not know what to expect. We had a brief introduction and then were able to experience a meditation through the labyrinth. I found it a deeply moving experience, with insights of what was going on around me as well as within me, and connection to several bible verses that came to my mind. As I was travelling away from the centre towards the exit, I felt like I wanted to stay in that place forever, and yet I was excited about getting out to share the experience and try some new approaches to old issues. It was interesting to hear what others experienced in their walks. Following this we joined the other group and had a worship service with communion.
If you have any questions about this event, feel free to speak to Betty, Pastor Lynne or myself.
