POEMS BY ANNA McDONALD
WHITE IS
White is the color used
In my walk of faith celebrations.
As an infant of eight days
Dressed in white
I was baptized into faith.
As a child of seven
Dressed in white
I sang in the Cherub Choir.
As a teenager of fourteen
Dressed in white
I reaffirmed my baptismal vows.
At all high festivals the church is
Adorned in white
On alter, pulpit and lectern too.
White is, to me,
A symbol of purity,
Of peace and hope,
And of God’s eternal love.

MY FRIEND
Thank you, my dear, for being my friend,
Together we will walk with great cheer
For upon each other we do depend.
But in difficulties we must defend
Each other with love and many a tear
Thank you, my dear, for being my friend.
At times to me you will send
Words of wisdom and words austere
For upon each other we do depend.
Life without you would only descend
Into a life of loneliness and of despair
Thank you, my dear, for being my friend.
We must never let others at us sneer
When they see us so bold and clear
For upon each other we do depend.
Because of you my hopes transcend
Above all my worries that create fear
Thank you, my dear, for being my friend
For upon each other we do depend.
