SUNDAY SCHOOL REGISTRATION
Sunday School registration is on Sunday, September 12th. Please mark your calendars. We look forward to seeing you!
N.E.S.T.
It was a warm, sunny day for N.E.S.T.’s annual picnic, Saturday, August 21st, this year at Little Mountain Park. Food appeared on the tables for the potluck lunch, and fun and games followed for 35 – 40 “new” and “old” Canadians!
Progress moves slowly in the plight of our refugees. Our chair has received word, that after two years, one of the families we are sponsoring from the Congo has received their first interview! (in Nairobi)
We have welcomed Sherwood Park Lutheran Church “on board” and give thanks for their support and especially needed care givers!
Thank You & Blessings,
Dorothy Handkamer

UPDATE FROM THE URBAN
We are now located at 641 St. Matthew's and our phone number is the same. We are no longer able to take donations of clothing and we ask that all donations of clothing be taken to the West Central Women's Resource Centre located on Ellice Avenue. They will be moving in August to their new location on the corner of Ellice and McGee. We still require donations of non-perishable food for our Emergency Food Program.
Parking at the Urban can be troublesome during the day as there are parking restrictions of one and two hours. In the evening, (after 4:30ish) there is a parking lot on McGee that belongs to a business that does not mind us using their parking lot. They are across from the church. People are asked to come to the door on Mcgee that is closest to St. Matthew's Avenue. There is also an elevator for those who have mobility difficulties. We do have a key to operate the elevator.
We are maintaining the same hours of operation. We will often set up for the drop-in community in one of the available rooms. There is a drop-in run by St. Matthew's Maryland Ministry but it is very busy and some people like to just have a quiet cup of coffee so they will come and see us. The community is very happy to have the option. We are very blessed to have the services of Aubrey Hemminger. He makes such a huge contribution to the Urban through his presence. Also, a big thank you to our many supporters who continue to provide funds and food, and of course, our most valued meal teams.
HAPPY 50TH ANNIVERSARY!

GOOD HUMOUR
An elderly lady was well-known for her faith and for her boldness in talking about it. She would stand on her front porch and shout "PRAISE THE LORD!" Next door to her lived an atheist who would get so annoyed and angry at her loud proclamations he would shout, "There ain’t no Lord!!"
Hard times came upon the elderly lady, and she prayed for GOD to send her some assistance. She stood on her porch and shouted "PRAISE THE LORD. GOD I NEED FOOD!! I AM HAVING A HARD TIME. PLEASE LORD, SEND ME SOME GROCERIES!!"
The next morning the lady went out on her porch and noted a large bag of groceries and shouted, "PRAISE THE LORD." The neighbour jumped from behind a bush and said, "Aha! I told you there was no Lord. I bought those groceries, God didn’t."
The lady started jumping up and down and clapping her hands and said, "PRAISE THE LORD. He not only sent me groceries, but He made the devil pay for them. Praise the Lord!"
