WHAT DOES BENEVOLENCE SUPPORT?
Donations to “Benevolence” support ministries that we do together with other churches, both here in Canada and around the world. Some examples are KAIROS (an ecumenical justice initiative in Canada), the Lutheran World Federation (including the Department for World Service), and missionaries who serve in Peru, El Salvador, Thailand and Argentina.

HUMAN SEXUALITY STUDY - 7 at 7:00 on the 7th
You are invited to join the conversation around the ELCIC Study of Human Sexuality. This is not a “top-down” conversation as may have been the case in the past, but a “bottom-up” or grassroots conversation. The feedback from this study will help develop a social statement on human sexuality for our church, to be presented at the 2011 National Convention.
Seven sessions will begin on Thursday, Jan. 7th at 7:00 p.m. People from other congregations have been invited to join us. Please let Pastor Lynne know if you are interested in attending. Individuals can also find the study online and submit their own feedback. (www.elcic.ca/human-sexuality)
LADIES’ GROUP
Our project for January is to finish the planning and to prepare for a Bible Study that will take place in February. All ladies are welcome to register for Saturday, February 13th.
A home study of Mary and Martha, sisters and friends of Jesus is planned. This will be a one day session. We will gather at 11:00 am. We will be making a joyful noise (hymn singing) in addition to the Bible Study and of course a bring-your-own lunch. Coffee / Tea will be provided. Watch the Sunday bulletins for more details.
THANK YOUto all of you for your cards, gifts and Christmas greetings. All are greatly appreciated!

Poet’s Corner
THE EVIL THAT MEN DO
Based on Isaiah 5:8, 9, 11, 18, 19, 20, 28, 22.
YOU ARE DOOMED.
You buy more houses and fields
To add to those you already have
Soon
There will be no place for anyone else
To live in the land.
YOU ARE DOOMED.
I have heard the Lord Almighty say
All these fine houses will empty ruins be.
The grape vines growing on five acres of land
Only five gallons of wine will yield.
YOU ARE DOOMED.
You get up early in the morning
To start drinking, and
You spend long evenings
Getting drunk.
YOU ARE DOOMED.
You say:
Let the Lord hurry up and do what he says he will.
Let Israel’s holy God carry out his plan.
Let’s see what he had in mind.
YOU ARE DOOMED.
You call evil good and good you call evil.
You turn darkness into light and light into darkness.
You make what is bitter sweet
And what is sweet you make bitter.
YOU ARE DOOMED.
You are unable to break free from you sins.
You think you are clever, so very wise.
YOU ARE DOOMED.

The Lord has Spoken – HOPE
Based on Isaiah 25:6-8
Here on Mount Zion
The Lord Almighty
A banquet will prepare
A banquet of richest food
A banquet of finest wine.
The Lord Almighty
Will remove the cloud of sorrow,
The cloud of sorrow hanging over all nations.
The Lord Almighty
Will remove death forever
Will wipe away the tears of everyone’s eyes
Will take away the disgrace his people have suffered
The disgrace they have suffered throughout the world.
The Lord himself has spoken.
Then everyone will say:
We have put our trust in God.
His is our Lord.
He has saved us.
We are now happy.
We are now joyful.
He is our Lord God Here on Mount Zion.

A SIMPLE REMINDER TO BE GRATEFUL
Count your blessings, this is such a simple charge and a reminder to be grateful for what we have. Yet in the craziness and the hustle and bustle of daily living stopping to be grateful and count our blessings is often one that we fail to overlook.
Counting your blessings, instead of the losses and focusing on the positive aspects of life can help in shifting attitudes and life challenges.
New Year is a perfect time to stop, reflect and remember to count your blessings, give thanks and be grateful for all that you have.
Count your blessings by smiles, not fears.
Count your age by friends, not years.
