NEWS FROM THE LUTHERAN URBAN MISSION
Our Fall Tea is being held on Saturday, November 14th. We could use donations of baking, items for a silent auction and volunteers. We would like to invite and encourage members and friends to come visit the Urban that day, between 1:00 and 3:00pm.
The Urban will once again be having a Christmas store in December, so if you wish to contribute new or gently used items, or craft projects, they would be greatly appreciated. This was a very big success last year.
We are in need of adult winter clothing, especially socks, both men and ladies. Cans of food are always needed. A list is available on our website www.urbanministry,ca.
Items can be brought to the church and placed in the box marked "Lutheran Urban Mission".
We are now serving 45 to 60 people on weeknights and 60 to 80 on Sundays.
Thank you for your contributions and support.
Sonia Sawatzky,
Ambassador. LUM

Everyone Welcome!
MITTEN BASKET
To all the knitters, it would be great if you could bring in your knitting by Sunday, November 15th. This way it can be distributed before the cold weather sets in. If you would like to knit a few items, there is wool and patterns available as more items will be required for the Christmas Hampers and items are always needed at the Urban Mission. Also there is a need for adult toques and mitts for men and women. As always, I am looking for donations of wool to make these items and baby wool. Please consider donating to this ongoing project.
Thank you

I would like to invite any from the congregation wishing to attend.
MISSION-FOCUSED BEQUEST BRAINSTORMING
As we gathered on Sunday, October 4th, many good ideas were brought forward. Others submitted their ideas in writing for the best use of the funds that we have available.
+ Do you have a passion for a particular idea?
+ Is there something that you would definitely like to see happen?
+ Are you willing to do some background work in order that we can seriously consider your idea?
While council members are doing some research, there are too many ideas for us to cover. Thus, council is inviting anybody with interest in a particular idea to do some research as to prices and to bring a proposal as to how this particular idea could work, given our current needs and resources. You could do this together with others who share the same interest. The ideas from the group brainstorming session are still posted on the wall downstairs. (some examples: van or bus; part-time youth leader; Habitat for Humanity; etc.) All of us will want more information as we make decisions together.
If you are able and willing to do this, please let Randy Iwanicki or Pastor Lynne
know which idea you are working on. This way we won’t end up with several individuals working separately on the same thing. Instead, people can work together.
All proposals should be submitted by Sunday, November 29, 2009.
THANK YOU
Thank you very much to everyone who brought sandwiches, dainties, made coffee, set up and/or cleaned up for our after church meetings/presentations and of course for our weekly Coffee Club!
BILLIOUS POND UPDATE!
We recently dropped off a cheque at Canadian Diabetes which brings our donations thus far this year from “A Letter from Home” C.D. to just over $1,000.00. We played at Luther Care Home for the first time this past month and will be playing there again this Sat., Nov. 7th at 2:00 p.m. We are also preparing for our 3rd appearance in Breakfast with Santa at King Edward School on Dec. 5th. Our monthly appearances at Middlechurch (1st Tues. of the month) & Maples (3rd Thurs. of the month) Care Homes continue as well as Monday Night Fellowship at Rockwood. We continue to be blessed through these outreaches,
On behalf of Billious Pond, thank you for your encouragement, support and prayers.
Bill Rumley
Please keep the men and women of our troops overseas and their families in your prayers.

ARTWORK COMPETITION FOR CD COVER
Prairie Fire, our MNO Synod Worship Team, is in the process of recording a CD that will include some favourite worship music for congregational singing and personal inspiration.
The name for this CD is going to be "BURNING BUSH". God catches our attention and continues to call us to service and discipleship, even as God caught Moses' attention and called him through a burning bush. God uses the "burning bushes" of music, lyrics and people to continue to call us today.
Try your creative hand at creating the cover art for Prairie Fire's CD. The prize is huge - a personally autographed CD.
Submissions should be sent to lulrich@elcic.ca by November 15th, or can be personally handed to us at the November Youth and Campus Service, November 15, 6:30 pm at Abundant Life Lutheran, East St. Paul.
IN FLANDERS FIELDS
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
By John McCrae
TAKEN FROM WIKIPEDIA
The number of Canadian Forces' fatalities resulting from Canadian military activities in Afghanistan is the largest for any single Canadian military mission since the 25th Canadian Brigade suffered 516 deaths in the Korean War between 1950 and 1953. A total of 132 Canadian Forces personnel have been killed since the mission began in 2002.
