Steadfast God,
You do not wish for us to struggle through this life on our own. May we accept the people and the signs you send our way to help us on the path you have set out for us, and may we trust in the mercy of your Holy Spirit, through Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen.
Prayers of Intercession
L: We pray for the church, the world, and all those in need, saying “Gracious God,” and responding “Hear our prayer.”
A brief silence.
L: We give you thanks, O God, for all the people who have guided us, helped us, and provided key support on our journey. Make us signposts and blessings to others as well, for we are all joined in one body. Gracious God,
C: Hear our prayer.
L: Guide and sustain our neighbours in the United States, as they engage in a contentious election this week. Lead them into those things that are most pleasing to you, and teach each one to listen to your Spirit. Gracious God,
C: Hear our prayer.
L: Creation is meant for our sustenance and enjoyment, and naturally replenishes what is taken from itself. But we have become greedy and take more than we need, at the expense of the planet and others with whom we are meant to share it. Transform our hearts to more closely reflect your desire for equality and compassion for all life. Gracious God,
C: Hear our prayer.
L: As Elijah revived the widow’s son by your spirit’s power, so revive us when we are dead to hope and resigned to despair. Send your spirit of healing to all those whom we know are in need of it, especially those who are affected by Covid-19 and those we name before you now... Gracious God,
C: Hear our prayer.
L: On this day we remember all the saints who have passed before us, especially those who have died in this past year (individual names may be read). Keep us bound together in the love of our savior until that day when we will be reunited in your heavenly kingdom. Gracious God,
C: Hear our prayer.
Here other petitions may be offered.
L: Hold all those for whom we pray in your loving embrace, and hear our prayers for the sake of the one who prayed for us, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
