Compassionate God,
You have the power to turn our most foolish acts into something of benefit. Use our lives for your highest good, in spite of our own intentions, for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Prayers of Intercession
L: We pray for the church, the world, and all those in need, saying “Renewing God,” and responding “Hear our prayer”.
A brief silence.
L: God of mercy, your church is supposed to be a place of forgiveness and renewal, yet so often we end up with grudges against one another. As Joseph found the strength to let go of bitterness toward his brothers, so may we loosen our grip on old grudges and harbored animosity. Strengthen our relationships within our own families, and within the family of God. Renewing God,
C: Hear our prayer.
L: Comfort all parents who have lost children, and soothe their aching hearts with the balm of your spirit. We give you thanks for all those who continually put themselves in harm’s way out of a sense of responsibility for the well-being of others. Renewing God,
C: Hear our prayer.
L: You continue to reveal yourself in dreams and visions, revealing your will not only for us, but for the whole creation. Teach us to pay attention to your leading, and to live in harmony with all your created world. Renewing God,
C: Hear our prayer.
L: Free us from the crippling jealousy and resentment that distances us from those we love. Heal and strengthen ties between parents and children, and between siblings who see each other as rivals. Bring a special measure of your spirit to those who are most in need of healing, especially those we name before you now... Renewing God,
C: Hear our prayer.
L: Comfort us in the assurance that you have brought all those who have died into your loving eternal embrace, and that they await reunion with us in your heavenly kingdom. Renewing God,
C: Hear our prayer.
Here other petitions may be offered.
L: Receive these prayers and invigorate us to live out your will on earth, for we pray in the name of Jesus our Lord. Amen.
