ELCIC Praise Appeal

Do Justice, Love Kindness, and Walk
Humbly with Our God (Micah 6:8)
The theme for the 2014 ELCIC Praise Appeal,

Do Justice, Love Kindness and Walk Humbly
with Our God, comes from Micah 6:8 and outlines
what God requires us to do in a way that is both
memorable and compelling.

Congregations throughout the ELCIC are asked to
designate one Sunday in 2014 to highlight this
appeal at a time that works best for your local
circumstances.

The following resources are available to assist you in
your Praise Appeal Sunday:

SUNDAY SCHOOL ICE-CREAM PARTY:

June 1st the children will enjoy an ‘Ice Cream Party’as a reward for completing the monthly Bible Jeopardy games.  There is also a special surprise, so please be sure to have your child attend.  Many thanks!

Also, we will have the children draw and color flags representing their cultural background to be displayed on the June 8th picnic.  The children may also draw and color flags that
represent members of our congregation as well.

CONGREGATIONAL PICNIC & SUNDAY SCHOOL / WIND-UP:

"Will be held on June 8th; the theme will be Folklorama celebrating our many different cultures bringing us together as one family in Christ Jesus!  We are inviting every family to bring one dish that represents their culture (Please kindly label your dish, with the country of origin & the name of the dish).

We will have a wide variety of food to taste & games & activities for the entire congregation to enjoy!" You may also dress for the occasion with traditional clothing if you have!  Thank-you!"

***Please note if any of the children are interested in attending the Luther Village Camps, the registration costs for LutherVillage can be paid by the congregation.  Each of the past few years, the congregation has set aside a certain amount from the bequest to send children and youth to LutherVillage.  For anybody who registers and pays the deposit, the congregation can pay the rest.  And in some cases the deposit can be covered as well, we can arrange for the entire cost.

NEST:

There have been no recent arrivals, neither family-related or private (full sponsorship), although some of our requests have been in the queue since 2008.

The world continues to produce refugees in need of our help. NEST is limited in the number of sponsorships it can take by the finances, and especially by the number of volunteers available for ‘caregiving’. If you feel you can help or would like more information, please call our Refugee Coordinator Jim Mair at 204-632-4757 or email him at jimmair@shaw.ca

It was through Jim Mair’s request that NEST has just received a most generous gift from the now disbanded CongregationChristLutheranChurch. NEST board members Jim & Ethel Mair were former members, and now have joined MessiahLutheranChurch. While NEST has assets totalling$140,863.00, approximately $33,000.00 was still needed to cover the full support of 6 families we have been committed to. Notice was received that our ministry to the refugees has been granted the amount of $30,000.00!

Our Heartfelt Thanks and Appreciation!
Thanks be to our Lord!

The 2 families (one family-related & one fully sponsored by NEST, who arrived in December 2013) are doing well at school (French & English) and with the ESL classes; some working part-time. They are surely happy in their new home, and no complaints heard about the past winter!
