October Newsletter
Sunday, October 1st, 2006click here for past entriesTHANK YOU Thank you to everyone who husked, cooked, served, set up, cleaned up, picked up the food and helped out in any way to make our annual Corn & Wiener Roast such a success. It is very much appreciated!
FOOD BANK A big thank you to everyone who continues to support this ministry with your ongoing donations, prayers and encouragement. We average about 85 families each time. We are continuing to collect used clothing donations (for all ages), small household items, children's toys and books and plastic grocery bags. They can be left at the entrance to the church. Also a big thank you to Elfrieda and Audrey who came out to help us when we were really short staffed.
EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN WORSHIP This is the name of the new Lutheran hymnal which is being published this month. A number of our members have registered for an introductory workshop to be held on Saturday, October 21, 2006. As a result of this workshop, we should end up with enough hymnals for the choir to be able to try out some of the music. To this point, no decision has been made regarding use of the hymnal in this congregation. However, council did decide to encourage as many as possible to attend the introductory workshop. Those who attend the workshop are encouraged to evaluate the hymnal and to think seriously about what is most helpful for our worship at this time. For those who have registered for the October 21st workshop: Please note that the location has changed from Christ Lutheran Church to First Lutheran Church (580 Victor St.).
COIN BOXES Coin boxes can be brought back to the church during the month of October. On your way out please pick up a few coin rollers so it makes the counting process that much easier. All proceeds are equally shared by C.L.W.R. and N.E.S.T.
FOCUS ON MISSION APPEAL The volunteers who chair the various committees of the Manitoba Northwestern Ontario Synod (MNO for short) have issued a challenge to the congregations and members of this synod. In honour of the election of Bishop Elaine Sauer at our 2006 convention, donations are invited to the Focus on Mission Appeal. In their letter (posted on the bulletin board), they outline how the synod budget actually requires $41,400 over and above regular benevolence donations in order to balance the budget. Part of the letter reads, "As church leaders, we contribute countless hours of volunteer time and we know first hand the challenges/discouragement faced when money is tight." All who are able are invited to join these volunteers in giving Bishop Sauer some "financial encouragement" as she embarks upon this new calling. Donations can be sent directly to the MNO Synod office or included in your offering marked "Focus on Mission Appeal."
