ALPHA COURSE: This is a summary of what our Alpha Course has been studying and we wish to share it with you:
Romans 12: 9-21 (New Revised Standard Version)
Marks of the True Christian
Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honor. Do not lag in zeal, be ardent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints; extend hospitality to strangers. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly; do not claim to be wiser than you are. Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all. If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave room for the wrath of God; for it is written, ‘Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.’ No, ‘if your enemies are hungry, feed them; if they are thirsty, give them something to drink; for by doing this you will heap burning coals on their heads.’ Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
THE VIEW FROM HERE:
From the very beginning, responding to global
emergencies has been at the core of the CLWR mission.
In fact, CLWR was initially created so that Lutherans in Canada could collectively respond to the needs of refugees and offer tangible aid to those in the midst of crisis immediately following WWII. Over the years, the world has changed but our commitment to relieve the suffering caused by natural disasters has not.
You are there when disaster strikes. As your partner, CLWR takes a leading role in responding to and mitigating the risks of international emergencies. Each year, we offer cash, food
assistance and in kind support through the We Care program to affected people wherever disaster strikes.
Thanks to you, support to our emergency response mechanisms has been strong and sustained since 1946. Each disaster is unique and must be managed in ways that allow immediate support to get through, with a view to future
rehabilitation efforts and development assistance that offers sustainable solutions to chronic circumstances.
We value our relationships with trusted partners such as the Lutheran World Federation, the ACT Alliance and partners of Lutheran Church–Canada and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada, to whom we turn when disasters strike. The assistance provided through CLWR is timely, efficient and effective. As someone who has seen emergency work being provided on the ground, I know that your life-saving support is efficiently managed and highly appreciated by recipients!
Your generous hearts, working through our willing hands, will enable CLWR to continue to be a global leader in international humanitarian aid. When disaster strikes, think of CLWR first.
