The Winnipeg Male Chorus concert @ Christ Lutheran Church raised approximately $1200.00 in April for NEST. Our thanks goes to the Chorus for a most enjoyable evening.
There will be no fundraising potluck suppers scheduled for this spring.
The annual meeting on April 24th was well attended. The faithful and current executive have volunteered to serve another term. Past chair person Jim Mair, was honoured with a gift for his knowledge, expertise, compassion and commitment to NEST throughout the years. The guest speaker was Wanda Yamamoto of Welcome Place. She spoke of recent changes to the Canada Immigration laws and some of the negative effects it has on our volunteer work.
The next meeting is Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012 at 7p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church located at 211 Kimberley Avenue
All are welcome.
AGAPE TABLE
At the annual meeting the congregation approved directing $1,000.00 of bequest funds earmarked for community projects to Agape Table. If you are interested in finding out more about their programs, their latest newsletters are posted on the bulletin board. In addition to serving about 78,000 bowls of soup and bread in 2011, Agape Table provided the community with the following services:
Subsidized breakfast program. For $1.00, community members are provided a nutritious breakfast in the form of wraps and breakfast sandwiches. The $2.00 option provides a larger serving size.
Low Cost Grocery. On Tuesday and Wednesday the grocery provides fresh produce, meats and dairy at low prices.
Agape Table for Kids. Teaches children and their parents about good nutritious food choices.
Sabbatical Arrangements
Pastor Lynne will be on sabbatical from May 1st until August 31st. Pastor Don Engel will be at St. Luke’s Zion for the majority of the worship services, and will also be on call for any pastoral emergencies.
INSPIRATIONAL QUOTES
Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only true friends will leave footprints in your heart!
To handle yourself, use your head. To handle others, use your heart!
Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, but beautiful old people are works of art!
Yesterday is history! Tomorrow is a mystery! That's why today is a gift!
One who loses money, loses much! One who loses a friend, loses much more! One who loses faith, loses ALL!

Church Yard Sale
The Church Yard Sale will be held on Saturday, June 16th from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. All proceeds raised will be used to support the youth from St. Luke’s Zion who will be travelling to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in August for the Canadian Lutheran Anglican Youth Gathering.
Saleable items can be brought to the church starting on the morning of Sunday, June 10th. All additional donations will be gladly accepted during the week of Sunday, June 10th to Friday, June 15th from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. If you so desire, items can also be brought to the church early Saturday morning! (But earlier in the week would be preferred)
All yard sale donations will be sorted in the church basement prior to the sale. Since we have no means of collecting goods ourselves, please make your own arrangements for bringing all contributions (including big ticket items) to the church yard sale.
It is expected that the youth will be helping with the yard sale wherever needed, but extra helpers are always required for the set up on the morning of Saturday, June 16th, from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. ( eg. carrying out tables, boxes and general set up.) In addition, extra helpers are also needed at the end of the day (4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.) when we are packing items not sold and returning tables to the church basement. Perhaps you might like to help in some other way? (eg. Rainbow Auction; seller; helping with the food; bringing items to the sale.) If you can help in any way, please feel free to contact me at 633-4215 and let me know how you can assist to make this yard sale a success like in previous years. Any assistance you could provide would be very much appreciated by the youth of St. Luke’s Zion!
TAKE TIME
Take time to THINK…..
It is the source of power.
Take time to PLAY…..
It is the secret of perpetual youth.
Take time to READ…..
It is the fountain of wisdom.
Take time to PRAY……
It is the greatest power of earth.
Take time to Love and BE LOVED…..
It is a God-given privilege.
Take time to BE FRIENDLY…..
It is the road to happiness.
Take time to LAUGH…..
It is the music of the soul.
Take time to GIVE…..
It is too short a day to be selfish.
Take time to WORK…..
It is the price of success.
Take time to DO CHARITY…..
It is the KEY TO HEAVEN.

What Makes A Dad
God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle's flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so, He called it ... Dad
